Backstage

Born on June 30, Roy Covington found his musical footing early—singing as a child and learning some piano by age 12, he attended Chowan University for Music Education in Fall 2008. At Chowan, Roy Covington began learning how to produce music. Due to financial hardship, he left college and later served in the United States Marine Corps for 13 years. During Roy Covington's time in the Marine Corps, he served as a Drill Instructor and adopted the nickname "CovNasty" on social media. After leaving the Marine Corps, Roy Covington decided to rebrand and use his legal name as his artist name and embrace his identity from and prior to the Marine Corps. Prior to the name change, he released roughly 37 singles in just 18 months and paused to hone in on his R&B/Soul sound.

Roy Covington has worked with artists including Terrell Baptiste, Robbie Reign, and producer Jackson Drinkard. He's also worked with directors Keith Billingslea, Metro Travieso and cinematographers Baxter Stapleton, Isaiah Upchurch.
